A golf hat you never think about during a round is a hat that fits. Too tight and you get a headache and a red line; too loose and it's shifting on every swing or taking off in the wind. Here's how to get it right.
How a golf hat should fit
Aim for snug but barely noticeable. The hat should stay put through a full swing and a gust off the tee, without pressing hard enough to leave a mark or give you a headache. The brim sits level, just above your eyebrows - low enough to shade your eyes, high enough that you can still see the top of your swing.
How to measure your head
Wrap a soft tape measure around your head about an inch above your ears and eyebrows, keeping it level all the way around. That number is your head circumference. Most adults land between 54 and 60 cm (roughly 21 to 23.5 inches). If you're between sizes, size up - a touch of room beats too tight.
Snapback fit
Snapbacks are the easy button: one size, adjustable plastic snaps at the back. Set it so the hat is secure with about a finger's worth of give. That adjustability is why snapbacks fit most people straight out of the box.
Fitted cap fit
A fitted cap has no adjustment, so your measurement matters. It should slide on with light resistance and sit with no gap at the back. If it leaves a deep line or aches after nine holes, it's too small.
Adjustable straps and elastic
